Not Again: Boil Water Advisory in Walkerton...
Many of you remember the spring of 2000, when seven people died and over
2,000 fell ill after drinking contaminated tap water in Walkerton,
Ontario.
Residents of the small
Ontario town thought that nightmare was behind them... until just before
Christmas, when Public Health Officials announced
yet another boil water advisory.
The culprit? Broken
water mains allowing untreated water into the system. (We know for
a fact the broken pipes were NOT from the $100,000 in new pipe that IPEX
donated to Walkerton during the crisis.)
Residents were finally able
to
turn their water back on for the New Year.
Election Update - Infrastructure
in the News...
We're coming down to the wire, and the leading
political parties are eager to prove their sincerity when it comes to municipal
infrastructure issues.
Meanwhile, the Liberals have countered with "a
new Community, Sport and
Recreational Facility Fund (CSRFF) with investments of $350 million over
five years" - but rather than new water systems, highways and sewers, the money
is designed to be spent on libraries, community centres and gymnasiums.
They're also promising to maintain existing funding under the gas tax plan.

A Not-So-Merry Christmas
'Twas the
Night before Christmas, and all through the house... not a creature was
stirring, not even a mouse.
Why?
A broken watermain meant several families (and even the mouse) had to
stage an emergency evacuation over Christmas.
