FCM Calls for Plan to Cut Infrastructure Deficit

Canada’s municipalities have called on the federal government to commit to a long-term plan to eliminate Canada’s $60-billion national infrastructure deficit.

Federation of Canadian Municipalities President Michael Coleman, Mayor of Duncan, B.C. says "We’re ready to get started now."

“We’re not looking for patchwork programs and ad hoc spending,” said Coleman. “We want a long-term plan and a long-term commitment. We estimate the deficit at $60 billion and growing by $2 billion a year.

Rahim Jaffer, Conservative Infrastructure Critic, has issued a news release saying they support the call for long-term, stable infrastructure funding to address the infrastructure deficit.

Quebec's Transport Department was scrambling to explain how a 25-year-old culvert that was inspected only five months ago collapsed suddenly last month, opening a massive crevice across Highway 40 near Trois Rivieres. Repairs took several days.
